I jumped from from January 5th to February 15th? Truth be told, there is
not much going on in the music department. Been practicing Stick and piano.
On the piano front, I've made really good progress on Poulenc's Novellette
#1 and have just started to work on #3. On the Stick, keeping mostly the
same tunes fresh. I haven't really done anything new in a while. Another
one of my patented lulls I guess.
Coup did a fun gig last week. The Park Bar in Detroit put together a tribute
night for recently deceased drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan from Avenged
Sevenfold and we were one of the acts. We did a good set and I really liked
the club (first time in there).
Rasa and I made our usual ski pilgrimage to the west and spent a week in
Jackson Hole. We took one of the nephews along this time and had a blast.
Jackson has become one of my very favorite places to ski.
Olympics are in full swing. Being a winter games junky, this is something
I always look forward to. Unfortunately, this year the Canadian feed we get
from Windsor (CBC) lost their bid to cover the event and it went to another
Canadian cable network that we don't get. That means we're stuck with only
American coverage of the games which is really abysmal.
January 2010

For some reason I shudder at the thought of 2010. I still vividly remember
one of my very favorite high school teachers telling us that for the rest
of our lives, every year would go by faster than the last one. I think of
that every year because every year I realize how true it is.
So what's happening? Lots of stuff I guess. I had a full two week break
from work for the holidays. Rasa and I spent a huge chunk of it up in the
north country and it was glorious. Winter winter winter! I always wonder
how anyone can possibly not love it?
I spent some time with the StepAbout while I was up there. Strictly with
headphones though. As a headphone amp it sounds really nice. Now that we're
home, I am working it into my rig and then deciding whether or not to buy.
Right now I'm fairly enamoured with it so I probably will.
Went to a model train expo up in Traverse City. Once upon a time, that
was something I did. I still have quite a bit of my old stuff in boxes
and the event inspired me to think about pulling it out and building a
new layout.

The StepAbout is officially mine. I sent my payment in after about a week
of integrating it in with my rig. The downsides are that I really didn't
want to add anything to my "floor" space. I'm also not enamoured with the
extra cables that now have to live in my bag and run to my feet. But the
sound is just so sweet that I have to overlook those things.
Coup will be getting out live this weekend for the first time since fall.
We're hitting the Northern Lights Lounge in Detroit which I've never been
to and hear is quite cool. It'll be fun to get out again.

A monster fun night. Coup gigged at the Northern Lights Lounge last night.
We hadn't played in this particular club before and really enjoyed it. It's
a really cool space. The opening band, the Acrophobic Sherpas, were
fantastic. Good players and good guys. The combo of the two bands worked
very well and we're all hoping on doing it again. Mostly ... it was just
great to get out and gig with the band again.
