So the Suttons Bay Holiday Festival came and went last weekend. It was
certainly interesting. The weather was about the best you could ask for in
December and that was clear skies with temperatures in the 30s. I was setup
out on the sidewalk along with one of the big standup heaters that you find
out on the decks of some restaurants. Even with that though, it was a bit of
a struggle keeping my hands reasonably warm. Still, it was totally worth it.
Very festive and fun.
One thing was crystal clear to me though and that is if I am to continue doing
these appearances up in the north country (which I hope I do), I very much
need to downsize. The huge rig is just too much. I still want the loops
though. I put in an order this week for a shallow 4-space rack. Once I get
that setup, I am considering taking the plunge on a Fishman Soloamp. The jury
is still out on that though. Stay tuned.

Ok. This is the most I've dragged on updates since I first started this back
in 1999. After a couple of months, I'm still feeling like this exercise has
outgrown its usefulness but ... I'll cling a little longer I suppose.
Ever since the Interlochen workshop, I have been playing a lot of Stick and
I've been doing it without any of the added electronics. I'm really feeling
that this is the biggest leap my playing has made in quite a long time. Over
the last couple of months I've gone back and re-worked several tunes I had
already played with new arrangements. I've even de-looped a couple of looped
tunes with new arrangements.
So a lot of the work I've been doing was with the intent to do more shows
next year in some of the northern towns during tourist season. I already
started making some contacts and things got rolling faster than I thought
with an invite to come play the Suttons Bay Holiday Festival. The event is
an outdoor Holiday stroll on the very decorated streets of Suttons Bay. It
should be fun and something out of a Normal Rockwell painting. That is ...
provided that the heater they're providing me does the job.
Life with the Whalers is moving along. The team are doing well this season
after a somewhat slow start. Beau became the sixth defenseman in the history
of the team to hit 100 points and is now sitting at 112. Rasa and I have had
a couple of dinners at our house with a handful guys from the team. One thing
that appears to stand out is the volume of food these guys can put away. Makes
me a little jealous!
